Sterkfontein Composers Meeting
The Sterkfontein Composers Meeting brings together the best young African composers every year in South Africa. It was established in 2012 at the Nirox Foundation in Johannesburg. Up to ten composers participate each year, under the guidance of artistic director Michael Blake, with an international ensemble in residence and guest tutors. During this meeting, performers, tutors and composers live and work together in one undisturbed setting, to develop compositions and discuss ideas.
The first four meetings took place at the Nirox Foundation, Johannesburg, the 5th at the GUS Gallery, Stellenbosch, the 6th meetings at Fynbos Estate, Malmesbury (both Western Cape), and the 7th at Nirox. The 8th meeting took place at Hoofstraat Conceptual in Riebeek Kasteel in the Western Cape. Read more here. The 2024 Sterkfontein Composers Meeting took place at Nirox in December 2024.
