​Sterkfontein Composers Meeting is once again pleased to offer two South African composers the opportunity to spend a month at the Visby International Composers Centre in Sweden.

Two studios are available and two rooms in the VICC apartment. Each studio has a computer and notation software, as well as a keyboard. The Alpha electronic music studio is not being offered at this time.

Previously we were able to fund travel and meals, but as this funding is no longer available to us, we are making this offer to composers who are already in Europe and can make their own way to Visby, or who can fund their own travel from South Africa. Apart from a flight to Stockholm, you would need to take either a local flight to Visby Airport and a taxi to the VICC, or a ferry to Visby. In the latter case, you would be just a short walk from the VICC and apartment. Composers without EU passports would also need a visa.

The dates are 24 October till 19 November 2023 and composers are expected to be present for the full period. There are supermarkets in Visby and a communal kitchen in the apartment for preparing meals. Eating out in Visby is quite expensive.

This arrangement was set up in 2006 and since then around 12 South African composers have taken advantage of an undisturbed month for completing/beginning/contemplating a composition project.
